No is greater than yes?

NO > YES. Sort of.

Unfortunately by saying ‘yes’ to it all in the past, I’ve sacrificed relationships, quality of work, personal health, and the time it takes to focus on goals I have yet to reach. I still struggle with this. So, I made a filter a while back that seems to help.

These two little Venn diagram tools below can be used both personally and professionally, and some of the variables can be adjusted to your needs. I’m sharing these as a starting place for you to consider if you have trouble prioritizing or saying ’no’, because they have been working quite well. Next time you find yourself overwhelmed, consider making a list and putting all of the things on your plate through these filters. Then prioritize whatever the ‘hell yes’ things are, and consider saying no or letting go of the ’no’ areas.

This might seem like a bit of a self-centered approach, but isn’t it true that when we are at our best, we can in return offer our best? This rings true with projects and client work, as well as with personal health, activities, and relationships that we build with others.

Our time is limited. Learning to prioritize activities and relationships that are an enthusiastic ‘yes!’ help us to focus on things that help us towards happiness, constructive challenges, fulfillment, and purpose. This goes for BOTH work and life… where clients, friends, and family can benefit from the alignment of your time being put towards efforts that are also beneficial to you. Give it a go sometime.
